Padlock - Security Locks In A Nutshell
March 20th, 2008 by admin
A padlock is a simple lock which is detachable. It consists of a sliding shackle. It is designed to pass through a narrow ring. More often it is designed to staple on a door or a chest etc. Some modern padlocks do not require keys to be closed. Others do require it. Almost every time this is due to security concerns and is often used as a security measure. Usually it is used as a security measure against leaving the key inside the thing or the place being locked.
English locksmiths created giant master padlocks in Victorian times. They challenged all people to open and claim a prize. This was done to show how very secure their devices were. The type of padlock they made from was crafted from many layers of steel laminated by them. These kinds of locks were invented by Harry Soref in 1919.
Combination padlocks are a different type of padlock locks. They do not use keys. Instead, the lock opens when its wheels are lined up correctly. The wheels line up correctly to display the correct combination of the padlock. The lock is often re-programmable. The lock is re programmed by holding the shackle in a special position. While holding the shackle, the wheels are turned, and the number is changed if necessary.
Padlocks are used by consumers. They are also used by commercial businesses. They are of immense use also to utilities, railroads & governments. They are useful for various applications, especially for the purpose of impeding theft, vandalism and sabotage. They are also used to protect people from harm.
Christopher Polhem started a factory in Stjarnsund that produced among other things a padlock of his own invention. It was called the Scandinavian padlock. These locks are also called Polhem locks.
Harry Soref is one greater name in padlock locks. Harry Soref founded the Master Lock Company in 1921. He patented an immensely improved padlock. He received a patent numbered U.S #1,490,987 for his new lock casing padlock lock. He made a padlock that was strong and cheap. He used a case constructed out of layers of metal. This was similar to the doors of a bank vault. He designed his padlock in which he used laminated steel.
An old adage says that you get what you pay for. With padlock locks you should not and don’t have to pay a fortune just to get high security and good quality. A purchase of a padlock lock means that you won’t have to make another purchase ever again. It is also more cost effective to do so.
