Create two levels of coat hooks. Place one set of coat hooks mid-level so kids can easily hang up coats and backpacks the moment they step through the door. Run a line of hooks higher up for adults. Add a shelving unit with baskets to hold outwear such as hats, gloves and scarves.
Create a pet care station. Keep all your pet supplies in one place, such as the back of a storage closet or a medicine-type cabinet stocked with dog treats, grooming supplies and pooper-scooper baggies. Use a screw-in hook to hold leashes.

Add clipboards. Purchase a clipboard for each family member to hang near the back door. Use the clipboards for teacher notes, soccer schedules, etc. and have kids check for information as they are entering and leaving the house.
Add shoe shelves. If possible, create a small space behind an outside door to keep shoes and sportswear in cubbies.
